Window Washing Procedure

GOAL

To remove marks and dirt from window leaving a transparent appearance.

PROCESS

Wet the entire window with diluted Spartans Concentrated Window Cleaner, gently scrubbing any residue that sticks to the glass.

With a clean dry towel, wipe around the perimeter of the glass.

Using a squeegee, clear the water off, take a clean dry towel and wipe around the edges again to pick up any water that may have been left, being careful to dry any water that is under the frame. Wipe off the window sill.

There are instances when the brush and squeegee method is inappropriate. An example of this would be when the glass surface is small and in such an area that the infusion of water may cause damage to the surrounding area or when the area is cramped.

In this case use a spray bottle with Spartans Ready to Use (RTU) Glass Cleaner, and a dry towel. Use as little solution as possible. There is no need to cover the entire window surface with solution. The buffing action of the dry clean towel is especially important in this process. There are times when a damp towel will remove all the debris from a glass surface, leaving it clear and streakless. Flush out dirt in cracks with spray from a squirt bottle.

OPERATING TIPS

Use only cold water. Use 6 ounces of Spartans Concentrated Window Cleaner, per gallon of water. Dry off the squeegee after every stroke. Avoid doing windows when very sunny. If you must do it in the sunlight, use lots of water. When window is over a desk or other immovable obstruction, place clean towels on the desk to cover anything that may be damaged if water is spilled on it.

MAINTENANCE

Replace Spartans Concentrated Window Cleaner, when it become discolored or soiled. Dump out old solution and clean out container. Fill to desired level with cold water. Add window mix concentrate in enough quantity to make the mixed solution light blue. (6 oz. of Spartans Concentrated Window Cleaner, per gallon of water) Never place squeegee blade on any surface other than the window. Replace squeegee blade when it wears out.

COMMON MISTAKES

Not overlapping the squeegee strokes leaves lines on the glass. Streaks around the edges are caused by either not wiping around the perimeter of the glass, or using a wet or dirty towel. Debris left on the window is from improper scrubbing. The amount of pressure used while scrubbing is important. Debris left in corners is from not flooding the corners enough to dislodge the debris.
