Total Wood Preservative (TWP) and Messmer's
We use TWP and Messmer's transparent stains for all of our work on decks, wood shingle roofs and natural wood houses. TWP and Messmer's are a deep penetrating pigmented oil preservative. We use TWP 90% for the roofs and Messmer's 65% for decks and log homes. As discussed earlier, products that form a barrier on top of the wood may look good initially, but are of little value, since they easily wear off (usually in less than a year). Far superior are products like TWP and Messmer's that protect the wood by being absorbed into the wood fibers themselves, replenishing the natural oils depleted due to the elements.
Two reasons Pride prefers TWP and Messmer's
- They use clean, high grade, deep penetrating paraffin and citrol oils, penetrating deep into the wood, protecting from inside the wood versus leaving excessive surface film build up.
- They use automotive grade transoxide pigments. These pigments are much finer than the bulky organic pigments used in other products. The end result is a more natural looking color that highlights the existing grain pattern with amazing clarity and warmth.
TWP and Messmer's work like this: During the weeks after they are applied to your wood, the oils penetrate deep into the wood grain leaving the pigments on the surface. The oils and resins rehydrate the wood and create a waterproof seal. The pigments penetrate the surface to enhance your wood’s natural beauty and create a protective shield against the sun’s damaging ultra-violet rays.
